What are bottle labels?
Bottle labels are stickers for bottle and beverage packaging. They serve as information carriers for the consumer and at the same time offer the possibility to advertise your product. The labels are applied either on the bottom, on the side and/or on the neck of the bottle. Labels provide important information about the contents of the bottle, the manufacturer, and usage instructions for consumers. Depending on the brand and product type, the label designs can vary from the texts and graphics.
The right label for every bottle shape
At packaging warehouse, you can customise and design Bottle labels. The designs vary depending on the brand and product type. The front of your bottle (known as the belly and chest label) can be designed however you like – whether you want to use different fonts or unusual graphics. To make their products stand out from the crowd, companies tend to favour innovative designs. Choosing the right material for your bottle label
If you want to label your wine, beer or spirits bottles, the question arises as to which material and adhesive is best suited for your label. Bottle labels are made of paper or plastic – the adhesive is on the back of the label. Our top sellers include label paper with permanent adhesive and our PP film with permanent adhesive. What information belongs on bottle labels?
If you want to label your bottles, you are required to include certain information on your labels. Your customers need to know exactly what they are buying. The rules and regulations for food labeling vary depending on the country and the type of product. The most important information that must be included is:
- Content designation
- Ingredients and allergies
- Best-before date
- Net quantity
- List of ingredients
- Nutritional information (fat, calories, sodium, sugar...)
- Information on the alcohol content with more than 1.2% alcohol
- Caffeine labeling (e.g. for energy drinks)
- Food imitations
- Origin labeling
In addition, the company address, storage instructions, instructions for use, and single-use or returnable deposit bottle notices are still often included. You should follow the applicable laws and make sure that all elements are presented completely and correctly in a legible font. Symbols and logos on bottle labels
You will surely have noticed that all beverage cans, glass bottles or plastic bottles have different symbols on their labels. Below we would like to explain you the logos on the bottles:
- One-way: The logo is on beverages that are made of PET plastic. The bottles are not reusable, but are filled only once. One-way bottles are thin-walled and lightweight. The deposit is 25 cents per bottle. The bottles are collected and later shredded by recycling companies. One third of them are processed into new products.
- Reusable: The logo can be on both (thick-walled) PET and glass bottles. The bottles are cleaned after use and then refilled. The deposit for these bottles is usually 15 cents, and for beer bottles without hangers it is as little as 8 cents.
- Green Dot: There is no deposit for this packaging, but the Green Dot indicates that the bottles should be recycled in the yellow garbage can or yellow bag. Among other things, non-carbonated beverages such as juice and wine carry the Green Dot. Sorting facilities can sort out these beverage containers for later recycling.
- PETCycle: This deposit system was introduced by medium-sized companies in 1999. Under this system, disposable PET bottles are sold in reusable crates by retailers in the vicinity. In return for a deposit, you can return the bottles to the retailer. The used bottles are then crushed and made into new bottles.
- Recycling Code: In addition to the various deposit systems, there are also recycling codes that are placed on packaging to identify the type of plastic. Recycling codes consist of a number from 1 to 7 indicating the material and a triangle symbol indicating the recyclability of the plastic. These codes support efficient recycling by providing consumers and recyclers with information on how to properly sort and recycle packaging.
- Hazard pictograms: Symbolic representations on packaging that indicate potential risks and hazards to ensure safety when handling products.
Fields of application of bottle labels
Bottle labels are an indispensable part of the beverage and food industry. Throughout the EU, all beverages must be labeled uniformly according to food labeling. Wine labels already existed 6,000 years ago - at that time, roller seals were still attached to the vessels to provide information about their contents. In addition, you can find out whether the wine is red, white or rosé - the variety and the vintage are also indicated. Among other things, wine labels must withstand humidity, moisture and fluctuating temperatures and the resulting condensation. Beer labels
In Germany, around 89 liters of beer are drunk per capita each year. There are 25 different beer styles and within these between 5,000 and 6,000 different types of beer. With this enormous quantity, it is important to be able to differentiate between the various types. Beer labels serve as an identification feature, and breweries can also use them to better market their beer and their brand name. In addition, it is important that the alcohol content and country of origin are also indicated. Beer labels also create a recognition value for the breweries (e.g. Radeberger -> white label with golden lettering). The labels must be as durable as they are resistant to scratches and wear, so that they are not damaged during transport and still look attractive at the point of sale. Gin labels

Waterproof labels
Waterproof labels are stickers that are used especially outdoors or in difficult conditions. Environmental influences such as rain, snow and direct sunlight can quickly stress labels. Labels for glasses
Labels for glasses help to organize and structure. At packaging warehouse, you can order blank labels for this purpose. Blank labels can be labeled, designed or printed yourself. Of course, it is also possible to order already printed labels. It is important that the labels on the glasses are waterproof, but can still be removed from the glass without leaving any residue so that it can be reused. Opaque labels
Roll labels opaque are indispensable in many industries and applications. The labels stand out with their high opacity, which means that the material is opaque and particularly impermeable to light. The reason for this property is the reverse side of the labels, because this is fully colored in a dark blue or gray. Opaque labels can be used, for example, for correction application, to hide the batch numbers/barcode or to mask nutritional values and ingredients for another country. Honey labels
Honey labels are an important tool to track the quality and origin of honey. Whether you produce small or large quantities of honey - with us you get suitable honey labels to inform your customers comprehensively. Important information includes the quality, the origin, relevant data of the annual harvest and possibly certification features. Honey labels are weatherproof and strongly adhesive, in case honey runs onto the label. The labels can be made in different shapes. There are the classic rectangular, but also round/oval formats. Hexagonal formats are also possible, which resemble the honeycomb. In addition, there are also labels with sealing bands - the bands serve as a guarantee seal. In the case of organic honey, additional care must be taken to ensure that the label material is ecologically compatible and does not contain synthetic dyes or preservatives. Labeling bottles - this is how it works!
At the latest when you want to label your bottles, the question arises what options there are for doing so. We would like to present three methods with their advantages and disadvantages. In the beverage industry, it is not always easy to apply labels because the bottles can often be damp or even wet. The number of bottles to be labeled should also be considered when choosing a method. Keep in mind that bottles must always be labeled neatly and cleanly if they are to be sold in stores. Buyers must still be able to read the information about contents, origin, etc. afterwards.
Ultimately, choosing the appropriate method depends on your specific needs. If you only want to label a few bottles or for private purposes, a manual method may be sufficient. If, on the other hand, you are working with a larger quantity, semi-automatic or fully automatic label dispensers can save you time and money.
Manual/hand labeling
In manual labeling, the labels are stuck onto the bottles by hand. It is a simple and inexpensive method - which is why it is so popular. In order for the label to be properly affixed, it must be done very precisely. Hand labeling takes more time and is also the slowest of the three methods. The manual method can also lead to errors if work is done inaccurately. In addition, manual labeling can even be painful if you do not adopt an ergonomic position. This method is therefore best suited for smaller runs or even for private purposes. The labels are usually adhesive labels, so no additional adhesive is needed. Wet glue labels, which require a label glue, are recommended for larger production quantities, as they are usually handled by a label machine.
Semi-automatic label dispenser
Manual labeling can be very time-consuming if labels first have to be detached from their backing material. More efficient, however, is the semi-automatic label dispenser - a convenient yet cost-effective solution. The label is automatically applied to the bottle with the help of the dispenser, allowing more bottles to be labeled in less time. Some actions still have to be done manually. Although the method saves time in some places and ensures greater accuracy, the process is not yet fully automated. The bottles are manually fed to the labeler by the operator. The label is then applied/pressed on by the machine - after which the bottle can be removed again manually. This process is ideally suited for quantities between 500 and 10,000 bottles.
Fully automatic label dispenser
The fully automatic label dispenser is the fastest way to get your bottles labeled. The entire process is fully automated and requires no manual intervention. The bottles are mechanically guided through the dispenser - e.g. by a conveyor belt. This process is fast, precise and efficient. Disadvantages come from intensive maintenance and care of the machine to ensure that it runs smoothly. A fully automatic label dispenser is also more expensive to purchase than the other methods and should be used for really large quantities. Therefore, when buying a machine, you should always consider the cost/benefit ratio, as well as the specific requirements of your company and product. This labeling method is therefore particularly suitable for industrial contract manufacturers or large brands that produce many different batches every day.
